The list of Eleanor Merritt's one-woman, group, corporate and juried shows spans the eastern seaboard and westward. It includes colleges and universities, corporate offices, museums, galleries, libraries and art centers.
On the list are the University of Florida; the University of Connecticut Cultural Center; American International College; the Atlanta Life Insurance Company; the Carnegie Endowment Institute in NYC; the Contemporary Art Museum in Jacksonville, Florida to name only a few. During the past 35 years she has had over 20 one woman shows, and her works have travelled to California, Colorado, Texas and Shimoneski, Japan.
This native New Yorker was graduated from the High School of Music and Art, receiving her BA and MA degrees in Fine Arts and Education from Brooklyn College CUNY. She is a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; on the Board of the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, FL; former Board member and V.P. of the Women's Caucus for Art; and a member of art centers and organizations in Florida including the Florida Artists Group; the Pen Women; and Women Contemporary Artists.
The award winning artist aligns herself with no particular school of painting, although she acknowledges the influences of her training and studies with her instructors at Brooklyn college under Ad Rhinehart, Mark Rothko, James Ernst, Kurt Seligmann and Mark Dillon. Her style continues to emerge with continual experimentation in mixed media techniques.
She continues to teach locally and is a popular lecturer in Art History with Senior educational programs in Sarasota, Florida.
